Vamos Flamenco Camp

Vamos Flamenco Camp

DESCRIPTION

Vamos, is a small town, 26km outside the prefecture of Chania, Crete. The village is said to have been founded by Arab invaders during the 8th century, who found refuge in Crete after being expelled from Andalusia.

The first official record of the name Vamo/Vamu, goes back on the 1577! The connection between the town of Vamos, its people, its culture and its history, with Andalusia is more than obvious. In particular, the interaction between the Arab legacy and the flamenco culture is still vivid, and you may still perceive such heritage in their musical traditions.

That is why, Vamos, makes the ideal place for such an event, a summer camp that connects people with the Andalusian Flamenco and the Cretan Culture, an extremely humbling and healing experience.

Within a week, the audience will be able to be part and enjoy flamenco dance, singing and rhythm workshops and even guitar masterclasses and workshops for children.

Every night, the camp, hosts a flamenco performance and next to that, our friends can enjoy hiking in the beautiful nature of the White Mountains, horse riding, yoga classes and visits to other Cretan Events but also many more.

ACCOMMODATION

The traditional village of Vamos offers the option for accommodation in traditional guesthouses and in a small hotel with a few rooms. These guesthouses are managed by the Vamos village tourist agency.

The organizers of the seminar do not take reservations for rooms. Therefore, participants will need to book their own rooms by contacting the agency, unless they find another solution. The small hotel has 5-6 rooms, while the guesthouses can accommodate 2-6 people each.

Therefore, it is easier for interested parties to organize themselves in groups and book together, through direct communication with the agency, stating that it is for the flamenco seminar. The organizers will help facilitate the process for individuals who want to share a house.

PRICES: Prices vary depending on the guesthouse and capacity (from 2-6 people) and range from €30-€40 per person per night. Prices do not include breakfast, since all the guesthouses have a small kitchen where you can make your own breakfast or cook something light.

Interested parties can go to the VAMOS VILLAGE and VAMOS PALACE HOTEL websites to get an idea of the space and then contact the agency at info@vamosvillage.gr or call +30 28250 22190 (Ms. Magda Lionoudaki), stating that it is for the flamenco seminar.

It is strongly recommended that interested parties make their reservations quickly since the summer season is expected to have high demand, especially in Crete. If the rooms in Vamos are booked, then other rooms in nearby villages will need to be sought.

WORKSHOPS

STAVROS PRESSIS / FLAMENCO RHYTHM & PALMAS / ALL LEVELS

Palmas (as we call clapping in flamenco), is a super basic element in the flamenco procedure as rhythm is the A and Z here. It is a useful tool for those who dance, sing, or play the guitar as it allows them to feel familiar with the flamenco rhythms and supports the flamenco procedure (dancing or singing)

In this class, we consider palmas as an instrument and we investigate the different ways to clap and find our best sound! Stavros is an experienced palmas instructor and guitarist, trained in Seville.
